- Bandsaw Material - Substrate
Carbon Steel is an economical blade type that can cut ferrous, nonferrous, plastics, and many other materials. A popular example of this type of blade is the Duratec line.
Bi-Metal blades are stronger and are for cutting ferrous and nonferrous materials. The term bi-metal comes from a design that utilizes are hardened cutting edge with a softer beam. The cutting portion can be designed with cobalt HSS teeth while the back can made from a softer silicone steel to prevent cracking.
- Pitch or Teeth Per Inch
All the blades that Sharp Tool sells have been carefully designed for the best performance. Always try to have about 8 teeth cutting at any time. Blades with less teeth per inch have higher horsepower requirements and will cut faster. Blades with more teeth per inch will cut slower, require less horsepower, and will leave a better surface. To help lower vibrations and noise levels, try a variable pitch blade.
- Blade Width
Always use the width suggested by your machine’s manufacturer. If you have a vertical bandsaw, your manufacture may have other widths to use when cutting contours.
