Tooth Function
As the blade moves at a certain cutting speed C and the log is
fed at the feed speed F, the tooth tip will remove wood from the log on its way
from the top to the bottom of the log. The solid wood will be transformed into
tiny chips, sawdust. The amount of sawdust produced will be stored in the gullet
and released at the bottom of the log. If more sawdust is produced than the
gullet can accommodate it will be spilled between the sawn surfaces and the
blade. This increases the side forces to the blade and will result in
deteriorated sawing accuracy.
The gullet capacity as well as the geometry of the tooth must
be in accordance with feed speed, log size and type of wood to be sawn.
