Feed Speed

To calculate the feed speed it is necessary to use some simple formulas. The figure shows the relationship between bite per tooth, pitch, feed and cutting speed is given. Each single tooth will remove a certain volume of wood given by the bite per tooth and the cutting height or log size. This volume should correspond to the chosen gullet capacity.

One limitation when determining the feed speed is that a minimum of three teeth should be active in the cut simultaneously. This limitation affects the maximum possible tooth pitch particularly when logs of smaller sizes are present in the mixture of logs going through the bandsaw machine.
